Typing Wingdings: The Keyboard Guide

There is no Wingdings keyboard — but there are three honest ways to type the symbols. Alt codes, Mac shortcuts, and the font-free way this site is built on.

Windows: Alt Codes

With Num Lock on, hold Alt and enter the code on the numeric keypad, then set the text's font to Wingdings:

Alt codeCharacterWingdings result
Alt+0252ü✓ check mark
Alt+0251û✗ ballot X
Alt+0254þ☑ boxed check
Alt+0253ý☒ boxed X
Alt+0255ÿ◻ empty box

Letters and digits need no codes — just switch the font to Wingdings and type. The complete key map lives in our full chart.

Mac: Option Shortcuts

Hold Option+U, release, then press U for ü; Option+U then Shift+U gives Ü (a different glyph!). The other accented keys follow the same Option-combo pattern — or skip the ritual and copy from the table below.

The Font-Free Way (Any Device)

Our translator outputs real Unicode symbols — they look right on phones, Chromebooks and Linux with no font installed. That's the whole reason this site exists: type normally here, paste anywhere.
